A new exhibition in this triennial, the Maison des Associations (the former 18th century town hall), is devoted to a private collection: “The collection of a collector”. Indeed, a collector does not make his choice by chance. A series of aesthetic, formal or emotional criteria will motivate his intention and create a unity in his collection. A purchase is more than an object. A special relationship is established. He photographs it, documents it, chooses a place for it, admires it, and above all, lives with it, protects it and cherishes it.

It is this emotional thread that links all these pieces to their benefactor that forms the basis of this exhibition.

MASTERPIECES FROM THE FRANK STEYAERT COLLECTION

Professor, gallery owner, critic, artist, curator and also one of the most important collectors of ceramics in our country, it is only logical that for this first edition we have chosen Frank Steyaert.
A collector since his teens, he bought his first piece during a study trip to London.
His collection is growing as a matter of course, he likes to be surrounded by high quality artworks that stimulate his creativity. He also believes that buying a piece of art is a sign of appreciation and support for the artist he admires.
Since then, his collection has grown to include hundreds of works from prehistoric times to the present day.

Frank Steyaert is a very talented artist who grew up with ceramics. He made his first piece at the age of 7 and has never stopped. He uses art as a language with which to express his emotions other than with words or musical notes. Sculptural or architectural, always with great meticulousness, his works belong to the greatest museums.

A great artist and a great collector, inseparable from each other, this exhibition highlights this fascinating and authentic duality. Around thirty modern and contemporary works by Lucie Rie, Yo Akiyama, Carmen Dionyse, Monika Patuszynska, Lawson Oyekan, Rafa Perez, Claudi Casanovas, … and other internationally renowned artists will surround Steyaert’s work ‘HAMONIS’. Commissioned by an Antwerp collector, after having worked on it for almost two years, he considers it one of his most important works and a synthesis of his career.

This important exhibition invites you on a travel between emotion and acquisition, between calm and storm, between collector and artist.
